Supporting women

£0.00

Beyond the Streets is a UK charity working to raise awareness of the sex industry and survival sex, challenge the societal norms that perpetuate harm, and transform responses by providing direct support, shaping policy, and equipping others to take action. Women need to be respected and empowered to identify their own needs and devise their own strategies. We believe that change becomes sustainable when a person is empowered. We offer a safe space to be heard, and help women make a practical plan of bite size and achievable steps to realise her future. Reliable information and support is key for someone who is involved in selling sex. We journey with women to understand their situation and the choices available to them. We are there for women as they take practical and manageable steps that lead to a genuine route out of exploitation. Our services have been shaped by women with lived experience and we continue to consult with our service users.

Ages: Under 13, 13–15, 16–17, 18+

Peer Support Groups

Our peer support groups are an important part of our counselling support work. In general, there are 6-12 individuals per group and the group runs for a set number of weekly sessions, facilitated by a qualified and experienced woman counsellor. We see how valuable it is for survivors to meet other people who ‘get it’, making them feel less alone and even making it easier for them to let go of negative coping strategies and develop new positive ones. Our groups counsellor said “I believe that this sort of safe space where survivors feel validated, accepted, heard, considered and cared for, fosters a different sense of self where they can begin to get their lives back.”
